Converting a Forza Horizon 3 UWP Save to Azimuth
A step-by-step guide to moving your Xbox app (UWP) Forza Horizon 3 save into Azimuth: profile, livery designs, tunes and garage thumbnails.
What you need
• Forza Horizon 3 installed from the Xbox app, with the save you want to keep.
• Azimuth installed, with FH3 launched in it at least once so it creates its save folders.
• Python 3.8 or newer from python.org (the default installer includes tkinter, which the app needs). No other packages.
• The converter app, fh3_azimuth_converter.py.
The app only reads your UWP save. It never changes it.
Part 1: Prepare
1. Close Forza Horizon 3 and Azimuth completely.
2. Optional but wise: copy your UWP save folder somewhere safe. It is here: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.OpusPG_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs
3. Turn off Xbox cloud sync for the first launch after converting, if you can. A cloud copy of the UWP save can otherwise be pulled back over local files.
Part 2: Convert with the app
1. Double-click fh3_azimuth_converter.py, or run python fh3_azimuth_converter.py in a terminal.
2. Step 1, UWP save folder. Press Auto-detect. It should fill in the wgs folder shown above. You can also press Browse and pick that folder yourself.
3. Step 2, Azimuth folder. Press Browse and pick your Azimuth install folder (for example D:\Games\azimuth-windows). The app finds the saves folder inside it.
4. Step 3, what to convert. Leave everything ticked for a full transfer:
◦ Profile and progress
◦ Livery designs
◦ Base and soul-bound liveries
◦ Tunes
◦ Garage thumbnails
5. Leave Keep anything Azimuth already has ticked. This stops older UWP copies from replacing liveries, tunes or thumbnails you changed in Azimuth.
6. Press Preview (writes nothing). Check the counts it reports.
7. Press Convert, read the confirmation, and continue.
8. Wait for the progress bar to finish and the "Done" message.
9. Start FH3 in Azimuth and check your progress, cars, liveries and tunes.
What the app does for you
• Backs up your current Azimuth saves to Documents\SaveTransfer before writing anything.
• Adds a new revision to each container instead of editing files. Azimuth reads the highest revision, so your old data stays underneath.
• Writes an undo list to Documents\SaveTransfer after every run.
• Checks that the game and Azimuth are not running.
Part 3: Undo
If anything looks wrong:
1. Close the game and Azimuth.
2. Open the app and press Undo a previous conversion...
3. Pick the newest azimuth_convert_undo_...txt file from Documents\SaveTransfer.
Azimuth goes back to what it had before. Your zipped backup is also in that folder if you ever need it.
Converting again later
If you keep playing in Azimuth, untick Profile and progress before converting again. The profile replaces your current Azimuth progress, and the app warns you when it is ticked.
Optional: make a standalone .exe
To share the app with people who do not have Python:
1. Install Python, then run pip install pyinstaller.
2. In the folder with the script, run pyinstaller --onefile --windowed fh3_azimuth_converter.py.
3. The app appears in the dist folder.
Windows SmartScreen may warn about an unsigned app you built yourself. That is expected.
